At this point 105 of you have already reviewed this product, and most of you were very good and thorough in your observations. Thank you. Now I too own the SANYO Xacti VPC-E2 Digital Camcorder, and I am very pleased with my purchase after a week's experience.
1. I shoot all my pictures at the highest resolution available.
2. I preset the camera for ISO 50 or 100.
3. I use the camera outdoors in broad daylight, and often I use a tripod for additional steadiness. The case that many of you dislike can easily be wrapped around the camera while it is still mounted on the tripod, and it protects the lens and the body against accidental jars and sunlight.
After reading your comments earlier, I decided to treat the camera as if it were an old Brownie, demanding nothing from it and providing it with every opportunity for success. I have no doubt that you could take much more demanding movies--if you were competent--with an Arriflex; but I who have used still cameras of every description both amateurishly and professionally since before you were born, probably, find myself both startled and very pleased with the results I have had thus far. Have you ever tried taking pictures of clouds? Try doing it with the VPC-E2--color, contrast, depth are true to the very edges. Shoot some flowers being blown by a breeze--the vivid reds sometimes overtake the powers of the camera's definition, but on playback you will hear all the songs of the birds you hadn't noticed while you were thinking about your picture. This is a camera to go out and have a LOT of fun with: it IS easy to use, and if you set a few limits beforehand as I did, you should never be disappointed--press the REC button (the only red dot on the camera), point, and shoot!
