I bought the camera for a fun device to shoot relatively low quality video by, and in, the pool. Got it around Christmas time last year, so our first chance to use it in the pool was long after the return period was over. Lo and behold, about the second or third time it went into the pool water got into the unit. Since this is "waterproof" and has an easy to see hatch cover (if "red" shows, it is not latched, black, you're good to go) I was surprised when the device had water throughout. Now, though the unit is dry, it still has rust inside so my hope for salvaging it isn't high.
My pool is less than 5 feet deep at the middle, so it's not a depth / pressure issue. The thing just is not built to be used in water (or, perhaps more for use in a bathtub than an outdoor pool). Skip it and look for something else.
Update: Just charged the battery and the camera still works, after getting water inside (and drying out, of course). Go figure. Gets an extra star for durability. Get more detail about Sanyo Xacti VPC-E2 Digital Camcorder and 8 MP Digital Camera (Blue).
